I have many watches. This is my current favorite, because it provides the functions I use most. The alarm is anemic. Not many watch alarms are loud enough to really be useful anyway, and this is no exception. The perpetual calendar is very functional and, once set, works well. I changed the original band to one with a clasp, but the band the watch comes with is fine. I like it so much I also bought essentially the same watch with a black face. The black one (a different model #) uses the same caliber. The case is slightly smaller, and the main stem has a cabachon. The slight difference in case size is not really noticeable. Although, the black face makes the watch appear smaller.

Looking for a perpetual calendar with chronograph at a great price? You owe it to yourself to check this Seiko out. Understated elegance suitable for both casual or dress occasions in a solid case with a comfortable leather band combined with one of Seiko's most precise movements yet provides everything one could ask for in a modern quartz watch. The perpetual calendar keys off leap years and is shown on the dial between the 11 and 12 by the +1,+2,+3, so once set the calendar keeps the right date always, and the day and date are easily read at a glance. The precise movement of the hands is fascinating to see with hands that are easily distinguished from the face. The smooth lines and elements of the case make for a classic and comfortable wearing watch that has all of Seiko's inherent quality and durability to last a lifetime. You'll be hard pressed to find another watch at any price that rivals the style and value Seiko has packed into this model. The pushers move easily and pulling the stem and turning the crown to set the time feels rock solid with just enough friction to give a silky smooth movement with no slack in the geartrane, so once you've set the time the hands stay exactly where they're set when you push the crown back in. The second hand aligns perfectly with the hashmarks on the face and this movement keeps time well within +/-3 seconds per month, making this Seiko a very hard to beat value. I've timed mine using the United States atomic clock app on my cell phone along with the built in clock on my phone and my Seiko SPC131 has gained exactly 2 seconds in the 34 days I've owned it. That's better than my Rolex Daytona chronograph, my Longines VHP, and equals my Boulova and Patek Philippe chronographs, and I paid only $100 for my Seiko. As a gift to yourself or a friend or family member, you won't find any better watch at any price in my humble opinion, and I don't state that lightly. I own many watches from every major marque, Swiss, Scandinavian, German, Italian, Japanese, American, and even a few high end Chinese made watches, and this Seiko holds it's own against all of them. The only thing Seiko could have done to make this watch better is to include a butterfly clasp with the band, but I added one myself for less than $5. Buy one. You, or whomever you give it to, will be glad you did.Read full review

What a fantastic watch! I know it isn't up to the finish level of Grand Seiko or even Presage, but it sure looks that way, especially from a distance. The SPC131 really punches above its weight. You will not find a better looking perpetual calendar watch on the planet than this one. The strap is garbage, but easily replaceable by any quality leather rally strap for $25. (I recommend Dryden straps.) And it looks great on black or brown leather. I've heard these can be a nightmare to program, but mine came set with the right date and time zone so it was good to go right out of the box. I just hope I don't wear the battery out watching the hands dance around showing off all the dates and chrono features! And speaking of hands, those blue hands are just hypnotically beautiful to look at!

Beautiful watch-a real attention getter. It took me awhile to set the watch correctly by reading the owners manual over and over until I got it right. I found the leather band really stiff and have a metal band on order. Overall, a great value in excellent condition.
