I bought this to help my mother manage her type 2 diabetes. Dr. Fuhrman leans heavily toward a plant based/vegetarian approach. Although there is protein in plants, all plants come with carbs which spike sugar readings. He is ok with spikes, believes that is normal. I would agree except that spike trigger insulin release, weight gain and seems to maintain the cycle that is diabetes. There is much debate over how to manage diabetes. My leaning is toward protein, low-glycemic carbs. Doctors agree on both sides of this debate, so choose the plan you can best follow...if you are a vegan you will LOVE this book.
