Few things in life I enjoy more than going into my back yard, eating a weed and beating the Dr. out of a hundred bucks. You just have to know which weeds are good for which ailments, this book is my fourth of this title, and sent to another friend. You can look up diseases and find out which weeds / herbs are good for that condition. You can look up herbs and find out what all they treat. I have noticed that not all herbs you buy are what you pay for or what is listed - meaning some work and some don't - and some work on you that do not work on someone else. I have several herb books and this is one of the best and the least expensive. It even tells how to harvest herbs. None of the herbs are made out of OIL, one of the best herbs is cayenne pepper, if you only learn about ONE herb that should be it or at least first - UNLESS you are looking for a particular treatment for a particular disease - then just look it up. My wife had been troubled with gall bladder for years and it lasted 24-36 hours. It was just beginning one day. I got out my herb book and looked up what one of her friends told her was gall bladder, her two friends both had theirs removed, one of the herbs I did have, horse radish, the day before we had harvested and put up a few quarts of horse radish. The treatment was 1/4 teaspoon of horseradish on her tongue, till all the flavor dissipated then swallow. She took it, and she got better instead of worse, so I had her take 2 more the same way, just because we had it and could. This year she had it again, she ate some horseradish, didn't seem to be working. I asked her if she put it on her tongue and waited for the taste to go away - no I just ate it to get it into my system as soon as possible. OK, now lets follow the directions, 1/4 teaspoon on the tongue till the flavor went away, she did, so did the ailment and symptoms WHEN she followed the directions. Jethro Kloss, the author, knew what he was talking about. I highly recommend this book to anyone who would like to beat the Dr. out of a hundred or several thousands of dollars, or who would just like to try herbs - they work for me and mine. If you just like to take pills, you can get herbs in pill form too and save big bucks. Of course if the Dr. is your heart throb, go see him / her - I just don't think you can cut, burn, and or poison yourself into good health. I have teated five (5) heart attacks with cayenne pepper, the pain was gone in 20 minutes and they did not go to the Dr. One guy did have to be retreated a couple days later - works on blood clots ANYWHERE or so I understand. Oh, yes, the treatment is a tablespoon of cayenne pepper in a glass of luke warm water and drink it right down, yes your throat will burn for a couple of minutes, but it will only burn once if you drink it right down, this ain't no sippin whiskey, or you can give the medicine man a hundred grand and he will give you something / rat poison that does the same thing, thins your blood but there are side effects to his medicine. No, I am not a Dr. I wanted to be, it didn't work out, but I like helping folks for free - I feel better about me - and they know I am not doing it for the bucks. Accept responsibility for your own health and study this book. I am James Elmer :-)Read full review
My mom had a copy of this book when I was young. There are many things it can help with health wise and I had looked for it for years. Happy to have it again.

All useful information - yet the fun is in teasing out the information. The chapters are a bit narrative - skimming does not work - So I learn more than I thought I would. Like all herbalists, he has his preferred herbs - and some of the stories are a tad on the melodramatic - This was an important book that started me on the path to herbalism decades ago - repurchasing it is a bit like a reunion with a long lost friend. A vital resource that everyone ought to have who wishes to study herbalism.

If you are looking to improve your health without drugs, then read this book. It explains how the body uses foods and how to eat foods to maximize their nutritional value. It also covers specific health issues explaining which foods are best to treat each symptom. This book was recommended to me by my pain management doctor, as a way for me to learn how to lessen my chronic pain without medications. I'd recommend this book to anyone who wants to improve their health and/or remain healthy.
My grandmother had the original version many years ago, I loved it then and love it now.
