As a novice to sign language I was looking for a clear , simple and concise instructional book. This is not it. I was hoping for many pictures. There is page after page of description of the gestures. Example: " place the nondominant five-hand in front of the body, fingers together. Palm facing out away from you. The extended pointer finger of the dominant hand brushed against the palm in an upward motion." This is the how to sign TALL. This book is not a useful learning tool for me.

I ordered this book for a private ASL class I was teaching. I wanted a book that would not be too expensive for the parents to buy. From the synopsis on the website I thought it would be perfect. It is a good book for beginners but my class was not a beginner class. I liked the explanation of facial expressions and vocabulary. But the exercises were too basic for this class. It is a good book and if you're just starting out in ASL, I would recommend it but if you have some ASL learning, I would find something a little more advanced.
This book has been great in helping me teach my boyfriend ASL. I am deaf and he needs to know ASL to communicate with me.

A great and helpful book for anyone interested in learning ASL. This book was a gift for my mother, who is taking a college course, and it has helped her greatly. It shows how to sign using words and images, and is simple to understand. I highly reccomend it!
