The 3M Sanding Pad works well and provides even pressure while buffing and polishing clear coat. The foam pad does not build up excessive heat, and allows enough time to work the product into the paint, in order to remove what I am working on in the clear coat. The velcro hook and loop works perfectly and it is easy to change between pads. My first 3M pad lasted over 5 years before it showed significant wear. The pad is sensitive to heat. Improper use will lead to faster degeneration of the pad.

This backup pad is the standard for hook and loop style buffing pads. Although expensive, this backup pad allows the use of high quality 3M pads. In case you are confused with the difference between the 5717 and 5718, the 5717 has a longer auger extension (neck) that keeps the wheel away from your machine. The 5718, with the shorter extension, is designed to be used with machines that require auger adapters (which add length). This item fit my Harbor Freight wheel.
