Hello all, RE: I love my Red 74' C3 Corvette Convertible - Get the right tool for the Job! I removed the old sending unit out of my 1974' C3 Corvette Convertible without this tool and played around with the 4-tab lock ring for a while till I finally got it removed. However, I knew there had to be an easier and better way, so I decided to invest in this nifty little GM lock-ring wrench for when I go back with my new replacement fuel sending unit. My fuel tank had never been removed before on my old 74' Stingray. It had no rust at all on the inside of the tank, so I cleaned it up and gave in a coat of engine paint that resists fuel and chemicals. My new fuel sending unit came in and it was time to replace it. I only wish I would have bought the sending unit and the lock-ring tool ... Hello all, RE: I love my Red 74' C3 Corvette Convertible - Get the right tool for the Job! I only wish I would have bought the sending unit and the lock-ring tool at the same time. However, without the help of that little lock-ring tool, you could ruin or damage your fuel tank lock ring tank flange or the new ring itself from tapping on it. This wonderful little lock-ring tool made the installation of that new 4-tab lock-ring so easy, it was a breeze and took all of 15 seconds or as fast as you can position the rubber o-ring, metal lock-ring, and turn the lock-ring wrench. The removal of that same lock-ring would have been just as easy had I had it to start with, so I highly recommend you get one of these lock-ring tools for your removal and installation of your fuel tank sending unit as I did. Honestly, it's still cheaper to own the right tools and pay someone to do such an easy job with the right tools... Get you one of these tools before you start, and your car will thank you! Great tool to do the job right.
Works great, you could use a screwdriver, but this tool makes the job easier and quick. When I put my sender in I found out I needed to adjust the wire for the float a least 6 times till I was satisfied with the proper level. Did this by putting fuel in the tank pre measured and then when empty. Tool made the job quick and I did not mess up the lock ring.
