    Proximity Key - a hard find.

    I did quite a bit of research to find the correct electronic proximity key for my Ford F-150 and finally discovered this key. Inside each electronic fob is a brass key for the spare tire release. The spare tire release was such poor quality the locksmith could not use the key blank. Since this was a third spare key, I decided to place the spare tire release key from my original fob in the glove compartment since I could always get into the truck to retrieve the tire release with the electronic key fob. However, the key blank with this unit was not usable. The electronic fob is OEM and the same quality as the Ford original. Still cheaper than the dealer, but did require a work around.

    FOB OEM,Emergency Key blank ? Read on

    Had a professional Locksmith program key and cut emergency key. Fob works like the original and is good quality. The emergency key blank is different from My OEM, mine is made of brass the one received is a soft steel. The Locksmith said it feathered when cutting. This basically means the material didn’t cut well it heated and rolled at the edge of the cut. It does work but just not as good as my brass OEM one.
