I have read this book many times. So much information to absorb and pulls it all together so you can see the big picture. Explains the Bible verses clearly that many people misinterpret or intentionally twist to help you understand the concept of 'once saved, always saved.' If there are any doubts about that, Dr. Stanley eradicates them and that's great piece of mind. Some of the most useful and worthwhile biblical material I have read.

Charles Stanley relies on poor proof-texting as well as logical fallacies like the false analogy in an attempt to prove eternal security or "once saved always saved." He uses little scripture but relies primarily upon logical arguments with unbiblical premises, especially a faulty understanding of the atonement. Stanley makes many absurd statements such as: "Even if a believer for all practical purposes becomes an unbeliever, his salvation is not in jeopardy." (p. 93) "... believers who lose or abandon their faith will retain their salvation ...." (p. 94) Yet the Apostle Paul tells us we must continue in the faith in order to be saved (1 Cor. 15:1-2, Col. 1:23, 1 Tim. 2:15, Rom. 11:22, Heb. 3:14, etc.). Stanley mistakenly teaches that being "cast into the outer darkness" "where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth" refers NOT to hell, but to spankings or fewer rewards in HEAVEN. Those who have read the Gospels will quickly recognize this as outrageous and totally unbiblical (see, for example, Matt. 13:41-43, 13:49-50, Luke 13:27-28). I purchased this book because it said it was by Sam Butcher and Charles Stanley. There is no mention of Sam Butcher in the book! The content of the book looks to be very good, but the reference is misleading

Great book and reference for those interested in "once saved always saved" vs. the oposing thought of saved by works alone. Compared to others on this subject this has the best presentation. It compares the two thoughts and gives an objective opinion of why we are saved by Grace alone. I bought this book because I could not find good detailed references to why we were saved by grace and I had a couple of confrontations with a lady in our bible study group who adamently believed in saved by works. This book helped me to solidify in my mind why we are saved and it also gives a brief history of the two thoughts. Dave
Great argument backed by scripture, clear and concise.
