I upgraded from an Oppo DV-970HD for the specific reason that the 1930CI converts SACD DSD output direct to analog stereo only, whereas the Oppo only did PCM which reduces SACD down to CD(albeitimproved) SQ level. But used this way, the m/c plays everything w/o a screen menu. this means w/o a screen MP3 disc menu is not useable: so no controlled play. While the SACD output is still not quite as good as the Sony players'(NS500V) reproduction it is one step short of analog vinyl and on a par with DVD-Audio: my preferred digidisc medium. In fact I've been recording my Vinyl albums to DVD-R format and the result is superb and preserves my stylus(expensive these days!). Even w/o a screen, the machine was VERY easy to install and set for Audio playback in stereo and one can lock out the display which improves SQ subtly but noticably. It is also simple to use and operates very smoothly. But on the downside, you need to look after your discs and keep the laser head clean. I had to clean - it came used - the heads before it would work as described;same with some discs. do that and it is superb. I don't doubt that if it did DVD Vision duty it would work equally well. Superior to the Oppo IMO: but then new it was over twice that unit's price. Not a bargain but GOOD value for money. Recommended.Read full review
Pros: The player has nice built in features not available everywhere, like gamma correction, brightness and contrast for darker than usual screens, very handy and discrete on-screen menu, totally not intrusive. As a special feature found on the CI series allows full customization of the output as to video/audio. It is cable of resuming/recovering playback where most players would have found trouble. Cons: Only bad thing about it is that the player does not allow multi-zone and there seems to be no upgrade possible for the US version of it. Highly Recommended for picky movie watchers.
It plays SACD discs! It plays DVD and DVD-RW discs! It plays My commercial CDs beautifully! The picture is perfect! That sound is Perfect! Plays my MP3s on disc! Everything I wanted in a DVD/SACD player. Some owners complain about its disc tray being light, it is but it works and I do not plan to use it as a diving board. Overall the entire unit is on the light side so if you want a player that is hard to pick up and move get somthing else. All in all so long as you are not looking for a Hi-Def palyer this unit should be a good match that covers almost all media type commonly found in a Hi-Fi collection.
This unit upverts picture quality of your DVD player as high as 1080p. It uses the HDMI connector to do so . My TV has a HDMI connector so 1 wire gave me sound and a higher quality picture. This unit plays almost any disc there is. MP3 cds, dvd recorder dvds, regular cds , copied cds , sacd , and dvd-a . It is a good player for upgrading your dvd player from a basic to a better quality player. I paid 225 for a refurbished player from dakmart. It arrived and worked for 1 movie dakmart sent a RA# and I shipped it out for repair at DENON's midwest repair shop. It was returned in less than a week and has worked without any flaws for about 100 movies played so far. If you want to see and hear the difference between a 50 player and an "audiophile" player this is a good unit to buy. PHILIPMA1957Read full review
