The Kreg 5 is a good tool for what it was designed which is make pocket hole joint. The board clamp works pretty well after you get the hang of adjusting it. After just using it making kitchen cabinets, there are a few things they should have done differently. The side wings that drop in tapered slots could have been a little more substantially made. They should lock in rather than drop in little tapered slots. They also should have been a little longer and wider to hold ALL the extras. And the wood thickness "gauge " markings are very badly out of alignment. The 3/4" board thickness for instance is half way between 1/2 and 3/4 so you have to count the holes to make sure it is where it belongs. Just cheaply done and sloppy. Same goes for the thickness locating pin, very cheap and sloppy. It works but it would have been nice to have a descent size spring loaded pin to pull out and drop in which hole you want. For what they are charging for something made mostly out of cheap plastic, it could be better quality.Read full review

731 Woodworking (YouTube) did a review on the new Kreg Series pocket hole tool and concluded that the K5 was much better. I trust his opinion and thought that with the new series being available there ought to be some deals on dated tools like the K5. I found this one and was not disappointed. Not only is this the K5 it is the K5MS (Master System) which makes the deal even better. It comes with everything you need including the AutoClamp. This was my first experience using an autoclamp and I was amazed at ease of use. I will be getting more of them as deals come along. Must say that at retail, autoclamps aren't affordable for me. Instruction book was good and I would recommend that user either read it or better yet watch Kreg's Skill Builder Videos for the K5. For the most part, using the K5 is fairly intuitive but setting the jig up for board width isn't or at least is wasn't for me. I would highly recommend the K5 and especially the K5MS to anyone interested in using pocket holes in their projects. There are, perhaps, better systems out their. But for the hobbyist/entry-level woodworker, I have no doubt that this product is best bang for money.Read full review

I've had the original Kreg for years and needed to upgrade for the work I'm doing now, so I ordered this unit. It is a step in the right direction for building any kind of box like structure, be it draws or cabinets. The ease with which it sets up is good and it is stable when clamped to the panel I need to drill which is very important. A lot of the projects I'm working on right now are recycled wood that is not the same thickness for the side being drill to mount and the clamp is quick to adjust so this also speeds up the work. I am very happy with the this Kreg unit.

Bought this for making cabinets. Works fantastic. Easy to use, hard to mess up. Fast and easy setup, with great repeatable results.

This is an awesome aid to the amateur all the way to the pro woodworker, my only negative with it is the price of screws, and replacement bits are a little pricey, Haven't checked yet, but alternatives can probably be found cheaper.
