In all honesty, when it comes to motorcycle radar detectors, how many choices do we have? Like 2? They should make more. That said, this whistler is ok. It comes with lots of mounting hardware, but none of the hardware is great. The detector itself works as good as ones I've had for my car, maybe better. One nice feature I like is you can turn off certain bands, x band for instance, which police in my area no longer use and this cuts down on false signals. But not completely. I still get false warnings in the same places my car detector gives them so I know where they are anyway. One thing I don't like is there are so many parts to mount: front sensor, rear sensor, control panel, led light. That's 4 different things to mount on the bike. If someone would make one that is "all in one" with a good mounting method, that would be great. The other thing I don't like is the wires plug into each other from the different pieces, leaving you miles and miles of wire to tie up and try to hide. No matter how hard I tried this was an eyesore. Would be better if it involved cutting the wires to correct length, and then some screw connection method. The used windshield I have had screw holes in it from a previous owner's GPS mount, so I stuck the led light there, and gives me a great heads-up warning. The temperature reading and voltage readings are a nice bonus. I couldn't really come up with a good method to mount the front sensor, so I took my horn off and put it there. I will now have to relocate the horn with some longer wires. I didn't even bother mounting the rear sensor, too much trouble. See what a pain this thing is? Anyway, sorry to be negative, just trying to be honest. A one piece detector that say mounts to your helmet or mirror or handlbars would be so much better.Read full review
The Cruisader motorcycle laser/radar detector is an excellent value for those interested in an stealthy component system for a motorcycle. It comes with a mountable flashing LED alarm, a front mounted radar/laser detector box, an ambient air temperature sensor, a second rear laser detector, and a instrument panel that displays the types of signals detected along with battery voltage and air temperature. I removed the factory voltage meter from the instrument panel of my Ultra Classic and replaced it with the Whistler display unit. It fit the round hole nicely but required slight modification to the plastic voltage meter mounting bracket to fit the Whistler. Since the whistler display gauge is slightly bigger than the voltage meter I was unable to reuse the chrome beauty ring to match the rest of my gauges. The front facing radar/laser detector and temperature probe fit nicely between the front forks. Mounting hardware was included which allowed for several options in how and where you mount the front unit. In my case, it mounted at the top of the fork with one of the supplied mounting rails. The rear unit mounted just behind and above the license plate with mounting tape to the bottom of the tour pack trunk. I would have rather mounted it a bit further back and in front of the license plate but after installing the display in the dash and routing the wire out and under the tank, there just enough length to reach the back of the license plate. I mounted the flashing LED to top of the middle bag on my windshield with a supplied tie wrap. This proved an ideal location. The LED was aimed right at my eyes and just below my line of sight. The LED is a very bright blue and there is no way I can miss seeing the alarm from this location. No need for the wireless helmet LED at all. It took me under two hours to completely install and test the Cruisader. The unit has very good reception and has successfully detected K/KA/X and laser signals for me with sufficient notification to check my speed and avoid tickets. The display did prove difficult to read while riding in most conditions, the control buttons are very small, and there is no audible alert option. However, if you want a radar/laser detector it difficult to notice or steal and you can mount the LED alert just below your normal line of site, then this may be the best unit for you.Read full review
1. Great quality of this product "+++++" 2. Very bright blue led indicator "+++++" 3. Easy for instalation for my R-6 2005, at least no any drilling and additional parts need. the time for installing was about 1 hour without any help from outside "+++++" 4. But!!! Too short cord for rear laser antenna, at least need 50-70 cm longer "---" 5. Rear antenna give a wrong when tacho more than 4000-5000 r.p.m - wrong indication - "laser detected", I think if I had cord of rear antenna little bit longer, I could mount it on lic plate and this wrong interference with electronic of R-6 will be eliminate "-----" 6. Too big box of W.I.H.D. unable to mount into helmet, I have Shoei Multitec and no chance to install this wireless box into helmet "---"
Bought it for my Sport-Touring motorcycle (FZ1). Very decent detector for the price. There are multiple reviews online regarding the performance and overall the users seem to be very happy even after a few years. Just google it. The looks are definitely better than a typical detector on a RAM or any mount and it offers multiple functions like voltage, temperature etc. So price wise I ended up spending less than all the units that I was planning to buy having the same fu8nctionality. I have not installed it yet but the fellow riders in a forum I frequent are very happy about it. The installation looks a bit complicated and may take a few hours, but the end result should be great. I hope to install it soon. Pros: Price Looks Multiple Functions Cons: Some were complaining about false alarms when in a particular RPM range on the bike I plan to install. I am not sure if this happens on all makes/models, but there is a $2 fix for this (installing a capacitor between the + and - to reduce interference) You don't have to do this if you do not have the interference.Read full review
The Cruisader is a lot of detector for the money. Perfect for your motorcycle. The plug-in cables are way to long, and are a pain in the ass to tuck away. Except the rear laser detector cable is too short: Go figure. I like the ability to block out annoying x-band altogether. The alert LED is very visible, even in daylight. There is an LED (wireless) to mount in your helmet. Very neat. Though I would have preferred an audio alert headset. Highly recommend this unit for your bike. This is my second unit: Using the extra radar head to point reward, as Calif. CHP uses moving radar.
