This item is very sturdy and easy to use. I noted other people's comments regarding rusting and found the exact same color 'hunter green' rustoleum paint and recoated it before assembling, even the chrome parts. Painted the chrome wheels black. Still looks good but more importantly stops the rust if left outside. I will add a BBQ type cover for the winter. One other issue was the connecting hose did not have a connector on one end so was useless. Luckily I had a spare. So be prepared to invest a little time and effort when you get it.

I rarely write a bad review. We are all human and mistakes happen. The two axles were missing from the package, causing me to have to go to the hardware store and fabricate a rig to hold the wheels on. 1/2"x5" bolts with locking nuts are working ok, but is not ideal. But the last straw was that the two washers to install the hose were not included. For a $100 hose reel, I find this unacceptable. The quality is ok, but I am sorely disappointed with this purchase.

Everything went together with no problem and it does not leak. So, basically it does what is should do. However there are a couple of important features that, if added, would make it outstanding. First, there is no automatic distribution of the hose as you wind it up. If you just crank away, you'll quickly over run the top of the reel with the hose wrapping around the axle. You have to manually distribute the hose as it is wound up. If you have 250 feet of hose, that gets tiresome but is very necessary! Secondly, there is no way to "lock" the wheels to prevent them rolling. My reel is on my paved driveway. When I pull the hose from the reel, the wheels roll until the feeder hose is tight. That means the whole pressure of unwinding the hose is placed on the feeder line/connection/faucet. If the wheels locked, the unwinding pressure would be absorbed by the friction of trying to move the wheels. I'm currently trying to think of a modification I can cobble together to solve this problem. This is a very good hose reel that is just short of great!Read full review

I have a little over an acre of land and had hoses stretched all over the lawn...quite unsightly, according to my wife. This allows me to get them off the ground and is portable so I can use one hose for both the front and back yards. Holds 250+ feet, which works well for most residential requirements.
