This is a MUST-HAVE book on practical hypnosis techniques (and actually NLP - Neurolinguistic Programming as well). Bandler and Grinder peel back the mystery surrounding hypnosis and reveal many different approaches to inducing hypnotic trance. This book includes description and explanation of a WIDE range of ways to produce trance, ranging from basic to advanced. The combination of the transcript of them inducing trance in volunteers and then explaining their methods and trance as a behavior is extremely valuable. Sadly, the book is out of print. Although there are a lot of other books on hypnosis, trance induction, and the like, few cover the range of stuff this book does (see my list below). Also, this one is very approachable. It doesn't read like a text book or car manual. The edited transcript gives readers the feeling that they are at a seminar or could be watching and having a conversation about hypnosis. Check out all the stuff the book includes, and you'll see why I consider it a must-have book. It's an INCREDIBLE, sought-after how-to reference on hypnosis and hypnotic trance induction: SIMPLE HYPNOTIC INDUCTIONS -Verbal Pacing and Leading: 5-4-3-2-1 Exercise -Non-Verbal Pacing and Leading -Overlapping Representational Systems -Accessing a Previous Trance State -Naturally Occurring Trance States -Anchoring Trance States -Analog Marking -Negative Commands and Polarities ADVANCED INDUCTIONS -Leverage Inductions and Pattern Interruption -Overload -Stacking Realities -Incorporation and Dealing With Abreactions UTILIZATION -Process Instructions -Generative Change -Clean-Up Routines REFRAMING IN TRANCE SPECIFIC UTILIZATION TECHNIQUES -New Behavior Generator -Deep Trance Identification -Pain Control -Amnesia CALIBRATION (w/3exercises!) -Crystal Ball Gazing SELF HYPNOSIS EYE ACCESSING CURES (Appendix 1 - This is part of the foundational NLP work by Bandelr and Grinder) MILTON-MODEL HYPNOTIC LANGUAGE PATTERS (Appendix 2 - These are patterns extracted by Bandler and Grinder from their studies of Milton H. Erickson, an incredibly effective and world famous clinical hypnotherapist) AND, If you check the index for topics there's MORE. Yes, you read that right. The index has bolded page numbers for those things for which you'll find tips, tricks, suggestions, and transcript of their in-seminar use of even more things than listed above: -Amnesia for trance -Handshake Inductions (made famous by notables such as Bandler, Milton -Erickson, and John Wingert) -Hypnotic Dreaming -Ideomotor Signalling -Incorporation -Linkage -Overlap -Physical Problems -Presuppositions, and -Recovering Personal HistoryRead full review
I am a Holistic Health Practioner and I have been trying to get a copy of this book for years. I am s happy I got it. Basically it details a seminar taught by Grinder and Bandler-the creators of Neurolinguistic Programming. It is a very good example of how NLP and hypnosis work in in the real world. They give real life examples of how they help people change their perceptions about the traumas they have experienced in their lives, which allows them to move on and change their behaviors. Now, if I could only find Use Your Brain For Change. Some one "borrowed" my copy and failed to return it. So, I reccomend any books by Bandler and Grinder.
ha ha you would like to know, wontchya?! I don't particularly like dissolves and I try not to use them, but when one scene follows another in the same place, and you want to make it clear that time has passed, a dissolve is often the simplest way to convey this. On the other hand, the paranormal visions are momentary glimpses into the past and the future, and must be short, even abrupt. With respect to the camera movements, I've always liked moving the camera. It's one of the basic elements of film grammar. When you have the means to do it and the set to do it in, it not only adds visual interest but it also permits the actors to work in longer, possibly complete, takes. This makes it easier for them to maintain their concentration and emotional level in the scene.
It's a very good reference book to follow-up on Frogs into Princes, based on what Dr. Erickson did unconsciously that others are giving meaning to after the fact. It's a good idea book for therapy.
