This album flat out rocks. Although Nick Gilder may be labeled as a one hit wonder, City Nights has a lot of gems not audible to the mainstream rock circle then and now. The West Coast style sound with a little Canadien flavor mixed in is refreshing to hear. With help from Jimmy McCullough (a vastly underrated and unrecognized guitarist), City Nights soars. Of course, this includes "Hot Child In The City", a fine rocker in itself, with an excellent back rythym provided by bassist Eric Nelson and drummer Craig Krampf (who had played with future Journey frontman Steve Perry prior to this album and later). If you enjoy that number, you might also take a liking to the straight-out groove of "She's One Of The Boys", the entire band is at it's best here. "All Because Of Love" is another standout. Keyboardist Jamie Herndon has some flexible licks on this one, from piano to organ to synthesizer. Check out McCullough's work on "Rock Away", particulary the end. "Here Comes The Night"- another all out group effort that shines. All in all, this album remains a hidden gem among other great masterpieces from the late 1970's era.Read full review
I am so glad that I was able to add these 2 albums to my collection. It is not available to purchase on any streaming service and is out if print. It was a high price to pay, however it was worth it. Not a bad song to be found.
