I thought this might be a interesting look into the world of old hot rods. It gives a great over view but not a lot of detail. If you want a hard core build up DVD this isn't it. Due to the time limitations of content length its difficult to feature a very detailed build up of a car and this is better in some ways it still skips a lot of steps. The pinstriping segment was interesting, very talented striper. Amazing how they do it out of their head. As a entertainment dvd I would say its great. As a technical build up dvd it falls short but fun to watch anyway.
This DVD is a fantastic intro to the world of hot/rat rodding and Kustom Kulture. Focusing on Ian Roussell's scratch build as well as Cali groups Road Zombies and Choppers, teh viewer gets a taste of what Rodding is all about. The Cali groups represent an element that searches out acutal parts rather than buying after-market parts new. This is a mind-set reflecting the highest authenticity. In a somewhat different approach is Ian Roussell, who considers himslef more of an sculptor than rodder. He fabricates the parts he needs and builds a "creation" rather than striving for authenticity. Both mindsets need to search out the right parts for their creations. The authentic rodders have had their cars for near 30 years, and are continual works in progress. Both have their place in the culture. Another nice part is Bill Wishart, who teaches Auto Mechanics at Fremont High School. They show him working with students to rebuild a vehicle to get to the big Viva Las Vegas car show. Great music, too! Wish there was a soundtrack available.Read full review
I bought this dvd because the cars and the people that build the cars there is a high school auto-shop teacher from California on the video who is working with kids to get them into cars and involved in other school activities. Where were these teachers when I was in school? Ian Roussel is a metal artist. Scratch is master of the Brush. It has some good music, pro-skaters and cutting edge car clubs. Over all, dumb title but excellant content.
This is a great DVD about the rockabilly car culture scene, it deals a little bit about Las Vegas and it also deals with a few traditional hot rod builders in the same scene. You won't see any Billet street rods nor will you see any Harley-Davidsons or Volkswagen bugs just traditional hot rods with a few Rat Rods mixed in.
