I own both an iPod Classic and iPod Touch. Both require armband when I use them to work out. Because of the size of my arm, finding armbands that fit has been difficult. So, I decided to purchase the shuffle. This player is very light (in fact, at time I forget where I have clipped it), and easy to place almost anywhere when I workout. It has about 10 hours usage between charges, so it doesn't have to be charged every workout. Plus, in spite of it's size, it holds a very decent size of music; I can got an entire week in the gym, and not hear the same song twice. There are a few downsides. One is that the iPod itself does not have any controls, and is controlled by controls in the headphones. But, that is fairly easy to get used to. The other is that, in spite of it being a iPod, it doesn't charge/transfer music from the standard iPod port (doesn't even have one), but instead, has a special adapter that works through the headphone jack. That means that there is an extra part to keep track of, and you can't use this iPod on iPod capable devices. But, seeing that I have other iPods, and bought this one specifically to work out with, it is not a big deal. Overall, for those of you that workout, and don't want the inconvenience of wearing an armband, look into the iPod shuffle.Read full review
Pros: Small, easy to change the song, is not like an ipod touch that you have to unlock it every time. User friendly, great volume, and it goes directly to what it supposed to do PLAY MUSIC. Cons: I have not found anything bad. I think not all cons apply for all people. It depends the way that you use it. For me is perfect, just what I wanted. Summary: I like the iPod because is little, easy to use. I have the Ipod touch 3rd gen and I wanted something a little bit more "on the go". Apple listened to me with this.
Purchased this for my wife as a replacement for a 1st gen shuffle that refuses to complete file additions. She is happy with this overall but the additional cable needed for the pc transfer is just something else to keep up with, The dock is much easy to use and being we have 3 of them less likely to get lost. The controls being on the headset is another not so liked feature. This is fine if you like the ear buds which she does not. She generally uses an external player for listening to her iPod. Over all a good product but don't know that I'll buy another.
Was it just stupidity or greed that caused apple to make the Shuffle 3rdG so that you can't use your own headphones by removing control functions from the unit and putting it on their own proprietary headphones themselves. WHAT WAS APPLE THINKING? That EVERYONE wanted to use their headphones or bust!? Also, these headphone controls are well known now all over the internet to short out at the slightest perspiration. If you even think about sweating, your ipod controls are in danger of failure. It's so bad that apple had to release an apology and offers to replace the unit if it goes faulty due to moister (which it WILL). DO NOT but this version of the ipod shuffle if you plan to use your own headphones, you will not be able to control the unit at all! This, this is the worst version of ANY ipod model that apple has ever come up with. They say it's great for working out, but it clearly isn't. Your only choice is to buy a 3rd party addon that allows you to use different headphones, but as of now their aren't any reliable quality addons that can replace the OEM controls and sustain moister. Apple FAILED on this design.Read full review
great value at this time as towards the price of the current items by apple and other look alike type the point is buy it used or pay a lot of money for a cheap copy also you can use any earbuds the player will work but you have to use the correct kind to adjust the vol and playlist but once you do that it will remeber the settings and start as soon as you turn it on same song right where you left off at for it's small size and no internal playback controls all of them are in the earbuds so broken control's is simple just change the earbuds all it has is a on/off switch so no problems with it's use very light and small enough to fit the extra pocket in most blue jeans the tiny on the right side fit's right in it is loud enough for most earbuds but you will need the adapter that has the control on itRead full review
