I like the movie because it is entertaining. I bought it after I lost my original. The movie is about a corrupt cop ( played by Brendan Gleeson )who employs two thugs ( played by Korupt and Dash Mihoc )to commit a robbery. During the robbery, the two thugs kill four innocent victims. Kurt Russell, along with his partner,Scott Speedman are assinged to the case. Russell, who also works for Gleeson, learns the suspects are Korupt and Mihoc. When Russell tries to tell GLeeson he has identified the suspects, Gleeson tells him to go out and find the real killers. From this point on, Russell is forced to set up two innocent men for the robbery and killings. The rest of the movie shows how Russell is able to frame the two innocent suspects. Watch the movie and see what happens next. I disliked the movie because it portrays cops as crooks, thugs and criminals. It shows the lack of integrity the officers have and what they are willing to do to frame innocent people. For those viewers who are not police officers, take this movie for what it is worth-entertaining. Professional police officers DO NOT act like Russell, Gleeson and Speedman. Please don't let this movie or any other cop film shape your image of cops.Read full review
Dark Blue starring my man, Kurt Russell. Kurt gives a wonderful performance as a Los Angeles policeman who has become misguided in his view of right and wrong. On the eve of the LA riots, after realizing the error of his ways, Russell tries to right things but is too late to turn back was has happened to his life. Kurt's performance and a realistic recreation of the LA riots in the final scenes of the film are the only bright spots in this muddled film. It is hard to follow, and amazingly dull at times. The trailer for this movie gave the impression that there was a lot more excitement happening in this film. I was disappointed, mostly by the fact that the LA riots were used merely as a backdrop to a film about police corruption. Kurt Russell can do no wrong in my eyes, but this film misses the mark. Sorry Kurt, it just didn't do it for me.Read full review
This movie is one of the best cop films I've seen. It's similar to L.A. Confidential, since both have crooked police chiefs that are eventually brought down. Kurt Russell & Ving Rhames are excellent as two L.A. cops who despise each other but end up working together against a corrupt cop who happens to be the former partner of one of the cops' father. Add to the mix, Eldon Perry's (Kurt Russell) new partner, Bobby Keough, is dating a woman who also happens to be a cop but once had a relationship with Assistant Chief Arthur Holland (Ving Rhames). The bad cop in this movie is Commander Jack Van Meter, played by Brendan Gleeson. He used to be the partner of Eldon Perry's father. Because of that bond, Eldon has become somewhat corrupt by having his partner shoot two suspects and then he took the blame for one of the shootings, which both were unneccessary to begin with. I love the fact that this movie features two rap artists: Kurupt & Master P. Kurupt's character is one of the two street thugs, who have worked for Jack Van Meter previously. His role is a important one because the character was involved in a convenience store safe robbery in which several innocent people were shot. Darryl Orchard (Kurupt) and Gary Sidwell (Dash Mihok) stole the safe and presumably others for Commander Jack Van Meter, who was obviously in it for the money. I also like the addition to the story of the real-life 1991 Rodney King beating which occured in Los Angeles, California. Dark Blue features reenactments and two video footages of the beating. The implementation of the riots which took place after the Rodney King beating in L.A. set up a great atmosphere for the film and allows for an awesome scene in which the killers from the robbery lure Eldon Perry into a dangerous area during a chase, which ends unpleasently for the white criminal since everyone in the area is black and anti-caucasian. I highly recommend this movie to anyone who likes intense cop dramas.Read full review
