The book is better, but it does have a good Halloween Americana flavor to it. Small town gets a circus coming to town, strangely late in October, with 2 young best friends on an adventure. If you like vintage Halloweenish movies, set in small town USA in the 30s, 40s, 50s - this movie is it.

I could vaguely remember this movie from my childhood, yet I knew it was kid "scary" - after watching it, gave me a whole new appreciation for it. It is a great pairing with Watcher in the Woods too. Makes for a retro family night, topped off with the Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad. (both separately purchased)
