It's been more than 25 years since I played my last video game on an Atari 2600. I recently bought a newly refurbished console and it surely brings back alot of great memories. Atari classics like Space Invaders, Yars Revenge, Missle Command and Defender as well as non-Atari bestsellers like Pitfall, Enduro, Frogger, Demon Attack and Turmoil...the names just pop in my head when I think of the name Atari. It's the perfect alternative to the more overpriced Playstation or Xbox. Surely the graphics are better on those machines, but they're not as fun or as memorable as the classics I ever played on the Atari. Atari is a great video game system for the nostalgic veteran as well as for the curious newbie.
I like this item Atari Games continued to manufacture arcade games and units, and starting in 1987, also sold cartridges for the Nintendo Entertainment System under the Tengen brand name, including a version of Tetris. The companies exchanged a number of lawsuits in the late 1980s related to disputes over the rights to Tetris and Tengen's circumvention of Nintendo's lockout chip, which prevented third parties from creating unauthorized games. (Atari Games' legal battles with Nintendo should not be confused with those of its former parent company—Atari also exchanged lawsuits with Nintendo in the late 1980s and early 1990s.)
I bought this product, because I love vintage games, and Atari 2600 is one of my favorite systems. I like the fact that you can play thousands of classic video games at ease. I also like the design of the system. It isn't heavy like the 1977 models, and I really like the all black coloring. For somebody who is looking to buy an Atari VCS, I would reccomend either this one, or the Atari 2600 Jr. I personally prefer this model, because it is sturdier. Compared to other consoles of its time,(Intellivision, Colecovision, Magnavox Odyssey 2) it has the worst graphics, but that doesn't make any less enjoyable. It is also much more common, and you will have a much easier time trying to buy one. If you are trying to choose a classic game console to buy, I would reccomend this one over the rest. You will probably get much more enjoyment out of it. If you have the money, the next best one is the Colecovision. The other two are okay, but unless you are a collector, I wouldn't buy them.Read full review
The Atari is the system that started the home console market craze.Yes Iknow there was Intelevision,Colecovision ect. but Atari was the system that sybolized that console generation. (Now then) The Atari 2600 is very primitive by todays standards but still fun. (Visiting video game history)The graphics and sound are what you would expect for the time. The games are simple but entertaining (Most of them anyway)Overall I think it's worth purchasing,if for nothing else but to own a piece of video game history that defined a generation.
Works perfectly!! I feel like I'm 8 years old again!! Everything works as it should, including all of the controllers. The console is in perfect shape and very clean. I am beyond happy with my purchase!
