the dies turned out to be six sided hex instead of round with the dimple indent and the edges are 1/2 inch thick but the inside is only 1/4 inch thick, cheap. the tap holders are cheap flat pieces, not the T style with knurled barrel tightener. the cases are too small and everything is tightly spaced and there is no room to make labels or use a marker. they could have put some bubble wrap inside the case as most of the parts were all over the place when i opened the cases! i should have spent more for a higher quality set.

Unfortunately, all Chinese taps and dies are not created equal: These look good but are frankly the bottom of the pile. I am willing to accept that I may find a use for them however it will be difficult: The taps lack taper and are much shorter than normal and dies are hollowed out on the back making them half normal thickness – a situation that will make it very difficult to keep them true. The tap handles, too, are thin die cast which will probably snap the first time I attempt to use them. (None of these flaws are obvious in the photos.) In fairness, I suppose the taps with their flatter bottoms might work as bottoming taps but they will surely be very difficult to start a tapped hole. The only advantage the dies have is their hex shape which keeps them from slipping or allows a wrench to be used. The sad thing is that had I waited until the local box store put their brand name (Chinese-made) taps on sale, I could have had a better quality set of the same size for a mere $20 more. Photos compare taps and dies to brand name (Chinese) set I borrowed from my brother.Read full review

Very low quality. Don't expect to cut more than a couple threads with these. The threads I cut were very rough and no amount of tap magic could help me. Best bet is to wrap these up and give them to my Nephew for his first birthday, he don't know any better and would get some use out of these. I'm old enough to know you get what you pay for, so the joke is on me.

If you don't use it often, it's ok. Do not drop or knock the wrenches. They are brittle and will break. I purchased this set because I had a set and the case fell, breaking one of my wrenches.

For what you pay, it works. I did already strip 1/4 #28 & have to run out and buy that specific size. It does work in a pinch, if you are just a hobbyist. Anyone else is going to spend a lot more money on a tap & die set.
