This is our second Britax seat (our first is a Roundabout that is on it's third child and second cover, but still going strong). I just can't say enough about the quality of Britax's convertible seats. I have researched and compared TONS of seats over my years as a mom and for me, no seat comes even close to comparing with a Britax. The price may seem outrageous to some, but consider this--our Roundabout has NEVER had a recall and if you divide the price we originally paid ($200) by 3 kids, that works out to about $67 per child. If you add up the cost of what you would spend to get the same features from a cheaper seat (ex. Cosco Scenera--$50 for a seat, $15 for a pad to sit it on so your nice leather upholstery doesn't get scratched by the sharp edges on the base, $10 for strap covers and a belly pad, and around $50 for a seat cover with better padding because there is virtually NONE on the original, that comes to $125. Give up soda pop, coffee, beer, eating out, or whatever for a month or two and you can save up enough money to make up the difference. After all, it is YOUR CHILD'S SAFETY we're talking about. I feel much better about my 3 1/2 year old being in a well built, 5 point harnessed, nicely padded Marathon than in a toddler seat / booster of any other kind. I am totally spoiled by the little creature comforts such as the belly pad, thick seat padding, rounded base that doesn't cut your upholstery, and the velcro strap holders (best car seat feature EVER and I don't know why they all don't have them). At almost $300 new, the Marathon still works out to under $100 per child for my 3 little peanuts. Since it can used from birth to approximately 5 years old, that works out to $60 dollars per year, or $5 per month of one child's life--less than a large cappucino or one 12 pack of name brand soda pop. We have tried others, and we keep coming back to Britax.Read full review
We decided to purchase this car seat after reading many reviews and saftey standards. This is one of, if not the, safest car seat on the market today. It is more expensive than other seats, but can be used for a long period of time. This is the first and only car seat we've ever had for our 8 month old daughter. Even though she was tiny at first, she snuggled in comfortably in this seat. It has the recommended five-point harness and I feel secure knowing that she's safe if something happens. We can use this seat until she's 65 pounds, giving us 4-5 years of use, maybe more! If you have a small car with a cramped backseat like we do, however, be prepared to surrender at least half of the backseat to this seat. It is very large! It was a bit difficult to put in because of our small back seat, but should not be a problem in larger cars.Read full review
It is a wonderful car seat and I highly recommend it. It is sturdy, top-rated for safety, and easy to get children in and out. I bought this, our third Britax, as a back-up for days when my husband dropped my son off for school and I had to pick him up. We unbuckled and lugged a seat for a while until we purchased this spare. I usually would deal with that type of inconvenience and not have a spare - why spend the money? - but it was a huge hassle and I hate the idea of continually uninstalling and reinstalling the seat as there is always the risk of failure. Plus it was cumbersome to carry it with 2 little ones in tow and I have difficulty reinstalling it. I recommend removing the seat cover and belts and washing in the machine when they need it. They come out so much cleaner. I air dry them. For the foam pad underneath the cover, I only hand washed it very gently on the few occasions it needed it (we've had a couple of milk spills that required this to be done). Be sure to get an idea of how it fits together before taking it apart as you need to reassemble it!Read full review
This is a great car seat. I feel it is very secure for my 7 month old. He weighs 21 pounds so he is big for his age but is secure in this seat. It was easy to put in. The lap pad did get a small tear in the fabric after only a few weeks. It is a little pricey but so far it seems to be worth the price. We have a different brand for my husbands car and it does not seem to be as secure.
The Car seat was easy to install. Many of the reviews state that they wish they had bought this carseat from infancy on, however the downfall is that you have to remove the child from the seat, not just grab the infant seat and go with the child still sleeping in it. So I would still recommend the other type for infants. Its hard to get the child into this carseat.
