Plain and simple the best hybrid I have ever hit. The raylor sole design makes confident work of balls in the first and second cut. I can easily and dependably count on a 210 yard save shot with this club. It is easy to hit straight and functions equally well off of the fairway. However, that is not where this club truely shines, poor lies in first and second cut depth grass is where the true value of this club comes to light. The big mystery to me is why Taylormade discontinued it?? Huh ???? It outperforms their new offerings easily and predictably. Seriously the design makes perfect sense and functions as one would expect it too. It slices through rough and reaches down without deflection into the rough and lifts the ball out. Topping the ball or slicing the ball due to toe drag in the grass is all but a memory for me since raylors took over my hybrid slots in the bag. Thats right raylors, I started with stiff shafts, in 3,4 and have now gone to reg shafts in 3,4. Finding a home for the stiff shafts was no problem, my golf buddies got in line to get them. Which brings me to overall value. These clubs can be had at a fraction of what the new and IMO less effective hybrids can be bought for. With the price pretty well bottomed out my advice, buy them while you can still find them. This is truely one of the best golf clubs I own and again I am scratching my head wondering why Taylormade departed from this functional design.Read full review
I play on a course with very thick rough; this club literally goes right through the rough like it's not there. Until I bought this club, at most I could hit 7 iron out of our thick rough, and sometimes go sideways to the fairway with a wedge. Now, I aim right at the green. I bought the club in regular on ebay thinking that I would change the shaft, but so far it is fine, and I play x100 on my irons! I have a 110 swing speed with my driver, and I hit the 22* raylor 200 to 220 yards off the fairway, and depending upon the lie, 150 to 200 yards out of very thick rough. If you have a lot of rough or side hill lies on your course, or just like an easy club to hit, buy it! I don't work for taylormade, in fact, it is the only taylormade club in my bag. I hit cleveland DST driver, ping 3 wood, and play callaway prototype irons in 6.5 project x. I have not been playing a lot lately, and wanted a more forgiving club for when I am not in tempo so I just ordered ping i15 irons in x100. Can't wait to get them. Good luck, and tempo...tempo...tempo...Read full review
I got a great price, for a good piece of equipment.I could have sold it several times last week. It's easy to hit, and gets the job done.------yes you do have to swing it,and keep your eye on the ball, and the club will do the rest. I never played a draw, and it took a little getting used to just start it right and let the club do the work. Wow that,s quite a review. Taylor Made should send me free stuff.
The Country Club I play has extremely thick rough with some rather long holes. If the ball is down the only real option is a SW. The Raylor with the V-shaped sole and deeper face allows me to get thru more of those tough lies with great results. The smaller head takes some practice getting use to and the club does feel heavier than others but overall the accuracy and distance (190+ $ Hybrid)are worth the practice time spent!
Excellent club, very good price, I now have two, a 19* and a 22*, replaced my Bobby Jones Hybrids with these. I hit them high and straight, favorite clubs in my bag. I have had Taylormade irons for about seven years now, and have no intention to replace them, unless I upgrade to new taylormades. Only thing I do with this Hybrid, though, is change the grip to Winn Dry Tac light. I think I am going to but another one, just in case, as yaylormade has discontinued it.
