Just found out the current #2 PGA Tour player GIR stat is: 2. Joe Durant / 75.42 percent / Cleveland Launcher Ultralite XL 270 So, why would you bother listening to me? That should speak for itself. Funny, because this is the one I use the least, I may pull it out and give it another shot. I have 3 drivers now, and a 4th on the way. Of the 3 I have, this one sends it as far or farther but with more fade. I also have a Cobra Long Tom that sends bullets with a slight draw, but I really have to be in peak shape to swing it. My fallback driver is a TM '09 Burner. Most accurate but I sacrifice distance, so I use it when the others arent working for me.
Purchased this Driver because all of the hype about lighter being longer. I agree that this is a good driver, not great, but I feel I made a mistake with shaft selection. I opted for the senior shaft which feels a little soft. My other driver is a Ping G15 regular shafted driver that I usually hit down the middle with a slight draw. The XL270 tends to go right with no draw. Again, I think this is because of the shaft I selected. I did test this XL270 on an indoor Launch monitor and it seemed to be working great. Golf course use is working a little differently than the monitor. I would consider this again with a different shaft....
What sold me on this driver is its very light weight. I can accelerate the club better for a higher impact speed. When you hit the club in the sweet spot, it real sends the ball flying and it makes that solid well-hit ball sound. Only disadvantage is that it is at least an inch longer then a normal driver which you will need to get use to or have it cut down by an inch the next time you re-grip it. Overall - it is a good club.
If you are struggling with loss of clubhead speed, this XL270 IS THE ANSWER! This club has added 15 yards to my tee shots and I have only used it 1 time. It is so easy to swing and you can tell that the clubhead speed is faster due to the light weight of the club. The club does not feel light however, you can still feel the clubhead. Highly recommended for anyone with a swing speed less than 95 mph. You will regain some of those lost yards. I am 56 years old and wish I would have had this club 5 years ago when my swing speed started going south.
I've hit a lot of metal drivers from a variety of manufacturers. So many of them have that tinny "plink" sound. This club not only sounds solid, but it feels as solid as any metal driver I've ever hit. That is surprising considering how light it is. I still feel mishits, but their shock is minimized quite a bit. Squarely hit shots are incredible. I have never had so much fun swinging a driver as much as I have the Cleveland Launcher XL270. In spite of the stiff shaft, it still has a flexible feel and took me a little while to get the timing just right. My first time at the driving range, I was spraying shots left and right. I took video and it's amazing how much the shaft was flexing. About half way through a medium bucket of balls, I got the feel for it and was hitting them straight as a stick. As for distance, this club is a monster! It is, by far, the longest hitting stock driver that I've ever hit with. I enjoyed the club so much that I went out and purchased a second one. Now I have one with 10.5 degrees and a second one with 9 degrees loft.Read full review
