This is one of the funniest stories I have ever read. I laughed out loud! It's a rags to riches back to rags story -- sort of like an underground Cinderella who is about to become the belle of the ball, but then gets hauled off to jaiil for trying to rob a bank! The story takes place in New York during the 1960's and it's the true story of the characters in the Lou Reed song "Walk On The Wild Side." I loved reading about this very unique time in pop culture history -- Max's Kansas City, The Factory, and all the craziness of the off-off-Broadway theatre. And the colorful characters were a hoot, especially the drag queens like Miss Marsha, Miss Lopez and Little Sheba. If you liked "Running With Scissors," you'll love "A Low Life In High Heels." Holly Woodlawn runs amoks with a chainsaw and she tears up the underground scene in this crazy, off the wall, madcap tale.Read full review
I'd better not comment on Holly's book with Jeff Copeland, other than to say that it is an entertaining read, which brushes the surface of a very complicated artist.
