This is the kind of music that takes you back to when my generation was growing up, and in particular, The Monkees TV show introduced us to what music was back then. Often times it's called "bubblegum" but after some research I found it could actually be part of a genre called "Psychedelic Pop" (similar to "Psychedelic rock", 1960's stuff). The memories are awesome, I loved it and I think you will too!

I liked the first two albums and bought this thinking maybe the others are good too. But I don't care much for the last two albums, so I can't recommend this set. Just get the albums you want. The quality is great however.

In 1966, the Monkees (Michael Nesmith, Peter Tork, David Jones, Micky Dolenz) burst upon the popular music scene in a highly successful weekly television sitcom on the NBC network. During the next 2 years, they would release 5 best selling albums ("The Monkees", "More Of The Monkees", "Headquarters", "Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd.", "The Birds, The Bees And The Monkees"); the first 4 of them all reaching number one! The group would also issue a string of successful singles, including 3 number one hits. There seemed to be no stopping this foursome of talented young men, all contributing their unique abilities to their music. Now, all 5 of these legendary albums that were released between 1966 to 1968 are collected together in one handy boxed set, "Original Album Series". The 5 CDs feature the original song line-ups in the same running order, all digitally remastered. Each CD also includes a fine assortment of bonus tracks that are a welcome addition to each album. A truly great collection of hit songs: "Daydream Believer", "Pleasant Valley Sunday", "Cuddly Toy", "Shades Of Gray", "Zor And Zam". "She", "Randy Scouse Git", "I Wanna Be Free", "I'm A Believer", "Mary, Mary", "Valleri", "(I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone", "Last Train To Clarksville", and many others that have gone on to become pop music classics from the 60s. The CDs also feature miniature reproductions of the original album cover art. The result is a brilliant CD boxed set that recaptures the fun and memories of the Monkees. A must for all Monkeemaniacs.Read full review
For the casual Monkees fan, this is an excellent set to delve deeper into the music produced by the group. Their biggest hits are here, as well as their best critically acclaimed work. You'll find everything from #1 hits, to songs from the TV show, to deeper cut gems like You Told Me, All Of Your Toys, 99 Pounds, The Door Into Summer, Auntie's Municipal Court, Tapioca Tundra, and Lady's Baby. Unless you plan to dish out the money for Rhino's Box Set, I highly recommend this five-pack of the original albums.
The cds all have a few bonus tracks on them. They sound great, original artwork. Interesting packaging. Personally, id love to see a follow up set with the remaining 4 albums.
