After playing a few tight courses lately, I really felt the need to replace my old fairway woods. I shoot in the low to mid 80's, and I usually use a hybrid 3 iron for second shots on the par 5's, or long par 3's, but wanted to put a 3 wood back in the bag for those tough tee boxes. The Tight Lies was very reasonably priced (about a quarter of what some of the newer ones cost, since I bought it used) and once I remembered that you're supposed to swing easy with this club, hit it great anytime. A fabulous club for the money, to be sure - I don't use it a lot, but it's there at the ready when I need it.
I've been using a Adams Tight lies 3 wood for 9 years, absolutely love it! One of the most reliable clubs in my bag. Accidentally broke my metal stiff shaft. Thought I would fix it, cost me $30 bucks to install a shaft I already owned! Then I saw a buy on e-bay for less than $15, including shipping! Graphite stiff shaft. A little trickier to hit, must relax grip, but boy does it go! High and long. When my driver is misbehaving, I bring this out as my "driver. I can almost hit is as far as my Taylormade R9 driver but right down the middle of the fairway, no slicing! Highly highly recommended!!
I like the feel and weighting of this club. I am able to get the ball up quickly whether I'm hitting it off the tee or out of the rough. I might change the graphite shaft to steel in time but the "firm" flex of the graphite works well with my swing speed. I purchased this club because I have a Tight Lies Air Assualt 3 wood and 9 degree driver. I like the setup of these clubs at address, very clean and classic looking. I also like the sound they make, similar to an iron. They sound and feel very solid when hit properly which is easy to do thanks to the low center and balanced weighting. I like how they sound like an iron when hit rather than a normal "metal wood" that has a chime noise. I would recommend these woods to all my buddies. I think they are great clubs.
I actually bought both a Three and a Five wood. The price was right, so I couldn't pass them up. Whe the clubs arrived, I immediately took them for a test drive at the local indoor range. These are some of the easiest clubs to hit that I have ever owned. I don't seem to hit them as far as my Taylormades, but I can overlook that, because they are so consistent. I think they will come in real handy out of the rough. They get down quick and stay down with ease, while launching the ball on a nice arc. I will probably end up giving these clubs to my son, as he is a fairly inexperience golfer, and they will really help him to enjoy the game.
This is my second 3 wood as I have two sets of clubs. One set is kept at the club the other at home if we play elsewhere. These clubs are easy to hit from all surfaces and give great distance. Love them and which they still made them.
