The Goldfinch is well crafted as one would expect from Donna Tartt. The characters take on full fleshed images in your mind's eye as the plot weaves in and out with surprises -- and yet there is no deus ex machina. Characters' actions and their consequences fit Tartt's tapestry of a tale beautifully. After learning that the book ran to 700 pages, I chose to buy the audio version. Who doesn't like being read to during errands or that hour long trip to visit a friend or family member?
I bought this book because we chose to read it in our Book Club. This book has been on the top of the best seller list for many months and has been awarded many literary prizes. Because the book is very long, I bought it on CD. Since we live in the suburbs of Los Angeles, listening to a book while driving makes the drive seem so pleasurable. While listening to this book, I found myself wishing I would get stuck in traffic. The story is quite interesting and different, and at times enthralling. Although the author does ramble at times, the actor reading on the CD with his varying accents and voice for each character made me feel very involved in the story.
a great audio book
