Author, Tom Gibson details his personal journey fighting for Special Education services for his son who is deaf. This is not a how to book! "Lost in the System" is a story interwoven with impartial Hearing testimonies and documented events and letters portraying an unflattering look at Special Education where school district personnel compromise on ethics and administrator's wheel and deal to save money. The story unfolds as Tom and his wife, Patrizia learn that their son, Max who is two and half years old is suffering from hearing loss and who eventually loses his hearing completely before the age of four. Max's deafness is the catalyst for a four year battle between Tom and his son's school district, The North Shore School District in Nassau County Long Island, New York to get one-on-one reading services placed on his son's I.E.P. Dismayed with the Special Education Industry, Tom attempts to get retribution through New York State but and administrative juggernaut stalls his fight for justice forcing him to draw his own conclusions about who really benefits from I.D.E.A. and No Child Left Behind (Federal Laws designed to protect the education of our children). The author says, "I wrote this book because I am fascinated and infuriated with the people within the Special Education Industry. This book serves as an open look into the Special Education industry for all parents working to get services for their child."
