Sinead O'Connor has come up with a beautiful album of Irish/Celtic folk music that shows a wide range of emotions. These are traditional tunes from her heritage, and each is performed perfectly in the right mood. No politics here (unless portrayed in the folk song). Those of you that know her only from her controversial SNL performance and "Nothing Compares to You" should give this multi-talented woman a listen in different contexts. She is one of my top 3 favorite female vocal artists.
Nice to hear the thoughts of an artist on the songs included, knowing they're not what a manager/producer had input on, in order to sell copies. This is a collection of songs that Sinead grew up around, and now she tells you about them, and sings them with her emotions. Never intended to make any music "charts", I never even heard of the recordings until now, seven years later.
Sinead O'Connor was born to sing these songs. Her duet with Christy Moore on "Lord Baker" is the definitive recording of this piece. They live in the heart of this song. And even having said this, every other song here is perfection. She sings with such authority, tenderness, grace and perfect phrasing, it's as if she wrote these songs herself. It should also be mentioned that the musicians who back her here take this music to an amazing place. Definitive. Sinead O'Connor's "Sean-Nos Nua" is her pilgrimage to perfection - a true Masterpiece.
Soulful renditions of Irish classics, recorded in "defiance" of the corporate musical industry using a small studio and very little mainstream promotion. Definitely a low-key gem!

Just read Sinead’s book where she comments on her albums and thought I would check this one out. Such a beautiful voice!
