I sought out this book because I had read two others by this author. I love historical romance- emphasis on the historical. Isolde Martyn delivers. I like how the heroines and heroes are not perfect, but just people with 'warts' who are determined to do their duty and see their people through in a crisis. The author stays true to the time period- times were hard and uncertain and there is no sugar coating for the sake of the romance. But, the romance is there- strong and true once it is recognized. This book is a sequel of sorts referencing people for the Maiden and the Unicorn. There is also a mystic element to this one that was not present in the others. Wish the author had written more!
