I bought the Creative Zen Microphoto to replace one I already own. The display on my Zen is very dim, and I thought that buying one that was never used would have a nice bright display. But that is not the case. I suspect there is a aging problem with all the Zen Microphoto displays. It does utilize an early Organic LED display. It just might be one of the first devices manufactured with such a display. The Microphoto dates back to 2007, so it is already 9 years old. Creative won't even fix it because the product is obsolete--- at end of life, so they say. Bottom line, stay away from this product if any are still for sale. Chances are the display will not work at all, or be very dim.

TRUE the displays on these microphoto players dim over time. It isnt the display itself but the old style light source used for the display back light. These are not feasible for repair BUT someone really good with the small soldering stations and smt electronics can modify the display with a LED source in place of the original light source, I have modified 2 units with great difficulty but I am not so handy with tiny precision work any more. Keep in mind the mp3 unit still works its just super difficult to see the screen.

I really like the Creative Zen products. I bought this one to combine music from several smaller mp3s. It is a little heavier because of the removable battery, but I think being able to replace the battery when it no longer holds a charge is a huge plus. The good stuff: The menus are easy to navigate, the software is easy to use and user-friendly (I am low-tech). The sound quality, as with all zens, is great. This unit is a little workhorse. It holds a LOT of music. The battery life is up to 15 hours. Could be better: The controls are very, very sensitive and take getting used to, even at the low sensitivity setting. (It does have a "lock" so you don't inadvertently hit a key.) I would have liked an SD card slot and there is not one. The written user guide is thin, so it's a good thing the mp3 and software are intuitive. I don't use an mp3 for photos or videos, just carrying music around. I travel alot so I use it in the car with an adapter and also in my office through my boombox. For what I need, I really haven't found anything to beat the Creative Zen, and I really like this Microphoto. Well worth the money.Read full review
This MP3 player is a great value if you can get it for under $50. Sounds great with the stock headphones. Songs can be loaded directly from Windows Media Player but the MicroPhoto software doesn't work well with Windows Vista. Works best with Windows XP. It uses an internal hard drive rather than a memory card. This leads to some boot-up problems and occasional freeze ups. Usually removing the battery, turning back on and allowing the music "library" to rebuild, solves the problem. It has the ability to perform a "Clean" cycle of the hard drive, a load-up of the latest version of firmware from the "Creative Design" website or a complete "Reformat" of the hard drive. The website will explain how to get to that menu. The operating menu features are a little confusing but once you use it a little, it gets easier. Creating "Playlist" helps to organize your song files and but can be somewhat cumbersome to create. Printing the manual from the software will help to simplify the operating procedures and song handling features. I ran a marathon using a playlist I'd compiled specifically for the run and it performed perfectly even during the heavy rain downpour I was in for the majority of the race. I've purchased 5 of these so far. One to replace my blue one that fell off while motorcycling, a blue one for my youngest sister, a pink one for my oldest sister, and a black one for her husband. Get one for yourself and enjoy!Read full review
