"Pocketful of Pinecones" is an opportunity to read a sweet story, and at the same time be inspired in the home-education of your children. It's a book I will re-read when I need encouragement and fresh vision for our homeschool. The mother in the story records in her journal the successes and trials in beginning to teach her son and daughter at home, after noticing her son's lessening enthusiasm for learning. She uses nature walks and Nature Notebooks rather than textbooks for teaching science, art, composition, handwriting, etc. They make a move from city to country, so teaching opportunities are presented for both. My book-loving third grade daughter also really enjoyed this story, and to my surprise has re-read it several times!
I borrowed this book from a homeschool co-op we belong to and immediately loved it. I couldn't put it down. It offers a look into a homeschool moms days. It is set back in time but it was truly inspiring. The mom is learning to teach using the Charlotte Mason approach. She sets a great example as a Christian, mother, teacher, wife and sister in law. The book is written like a diary and broken into smaller sections if you don't have alot of time to read. I could have read it one sitting, it was that good! I bought a copy of the book for myself. It is a book you can read many many times.
I found this to be a very easy book to read. It is interesting, it follows a story line, as well as giving pertinent informtion to the reader in an example of day to day homeschooling. I learned more about nature from this book than I had known before and my curiosity about nature grew. The reading style reminds me of the Little House On the Prairie, with the very simple way of living as well as recognizing God as the one who created our world. The resources in the back of the book are very helpful too.
A delightful story for the home educating mama. A living book for moms to be refreshed in her journey of raising children. Definitely filled my Mother Culture seeking heart.

I have really enjoyed this book! I was expecting an informative book on the Charlotte Mason method of homeschooling, but, instead, it is a wonderful fictional story! The story is about a family who are in their first year of homeschooling & they are trying the Charlotte Mason method of using Nature Books. I have actually learned quite a few things while following a very pleasant story line. The book's appendix lists several real books that will be most helpful in the future, I'm sure!
