I purchased this unit to replace another same model printer that had just recently died. I have used Brother laser printers exclusively for the last 5 years and have been extremely pleased with the performance. This printer has a rugged heavy feel to it. Print speeds are very quick and noise factor is minimal. As with most printers though, the expense for consumables is expensive compared to the fairly purchase price point for the initial investment in a printer. Toner cartridges for the high yield cartridges are appx. $100.00 - $120.00 each and with 4 color toner cartridges, a set of each color is going to set you back $500.00 with tax and shipping included, and the drum replacement will set you back around $150.00. I strongly urge that you use brand name toner only (and no I am no way work for or compensated by Brother). Third party cartridges are not the bargain that they claim as they tend to leak and leave toner smudges on your printouts.Read full review
This printer is great-especially when it was on sale 50%. That was the reason I chose this one. It is also great because it comes with regular yield cartilidges instead of starter. What I did not like was the huge and heavy design without the bright colors. The colors seemed a bit dull compared to on screen. The print quality was just "reasonable" for this reason. I do recommend it though
After doing quite a bit of research online I purchased a Brother HL4040CN color laser printer for my home office. I was looking for an entry level color laser that would do a good job and not cost over $300. While there were cheaper color laser printers out there they did not have very good reviews. I found factory refurbished units here on eBay for just over $200 and they also included free shipping which is an incredible deal considering the printer weighs over 65 pounds. Set up was a breeze for me as I followed the set up instructions provided with the printer. One thing I should mention is that it is very important to not install the printer drivers until the instructions tell you to. Operation of the printer is also a breeze and fast. The only two bad things I can even think of (and they are very minor to me) is that the printer fan is a little loud and the printer takes a little time to heat up when you print the first page compared to an ink jet, which is normal after all because it is a laser. I would highly recommend this printer for home or light office use.Read full review
This is a great color laser pinter for a home or small office. Print quality is excellent. High capacity, in box, cartridges make it a cost effective solution when compared to other printers in it's price range. I unpacked the unit loaded the toner cartridges and had it connected to my network within 30 minutes. USB 2.0 and Ethernet connect-ability allow users the best choice for their work environment. The unit weighs in at 53 lbs. an the build quality is better that I expected at this price point.($300) I have no hesitation recommending this printer to anyone looking for a 20,000 to 30,000 page/month duty cycle lase printer.
This is my first laser printer. The set-up was fairly easy although I did have to do a re-install because I had trouble with the networking in our home office computers. I was pleased with quality of the prints both for presentations and picture quality. Only con is when I do print pictures from my computer many don't line up correctly one side does have a border and the other end bleeds off the page. All I have read in the manual says this because of different cameras but I know from having other printers there has to be a way around this problem. I have only had this printer for less than 2 months but I am very pleased with the performance so far.
