This book is about genetic ancestry. The way it is laid out, makes it easy for a total layperson like me to understand what the author proposes in his work. Also it is written with stories, both to detail his research, and stories of the subjects of his research which I find entertaining. Because of the storytelling style, I could handle some of the elements of his writing. I will probably have to read this book a few more times to really get a picture of all that is in it, and do some research online to understand the science behind what he talks about. Bryan Sykes is a professor of genetics at the Institute of Molecular Medicine at Oxford University.
The book covered the new subject of mitochondrial DNA extremely well, both scientifically and with fictional representations of the Seven Eves. It was extremely well written. The scientific jargon was explained clearly so that non-scientists could understand exactly what Dr. Sykes was describing. Covers an extremely interesting topic that can verify or correct historical assuptions of where we came from and when. I highly recommend the book to anyone interested in world history, genealogy, or anthropology.
Logical scientific research compelling in it's story

I think this book is valuable as an introduction to the study of our past based on genetic tracing. I would recommend it to anyone interested in the subject. It also touches on some of the conflicts scientists faccee with respect to ethics and discovery. While slightly outdated due to recent findings, it nevertheless stands on its own merits.
