Longman's commentary on commentaries is so useful. His 1-5 star system really divides out the duds, while his notes provide the emphases, level, thickness, strengths, and weaknesses of each. He includes a commentary on sets as well. Without Longman you are a blindfolded acrobat, foolishly practicing on the cliffs of liberalism, criticism, and poor scholarship. Only three problems: 1) I wish he mentioned more duds and individual books; he doesn't like including many one-starred flops. 2) He keeps removing older, mediocre content, and 3) Although he doesn't mind giving good reviews to anti-Christian heretics and mockers, (as long as they're good scholars), he will ALWAYS nail dispensationalists. If an author is not amillenial like him, that author will never get over three stars, (i.e., he shows mild contempt for Christians who are outside his own camp.)Read full review
