To avoid confusion, read the Afterward first! You will understand more about what the book is about. The lack of citations are somewhat frustrating, even though the point of the book is to show how history has different perspectives, as well as that historical narrative always takes from the imagination. It is a solid read, and for those who want a glimpse at postmodern history, I would recommend it. However, be aware that although all the stories are taken from thorough research of documented evidence, the author seems to be taking advantage of the fact that he specifically states the use of imagination from sources, and it leads one to not be sure of what specific passages to take seriously and what not to.
