Strange film from 1968 which is off the beaten track. But it has it's rewards. And Julie Christie and Shirley Knight are always worth watching.

Julie Christie is heartbreaking but so is Shirley Knight as Scott's ex. Camerawork by Nicolas Roeg and you can see the technique that made Roeg's Don't Look Now so haunting. Watch for Janis Joplin and the Grateful Dead in early sequences. Conjures up the Summer of Love for those who were there and those who weren't.

Petulia was a breakthrough movie, style-wise, that remains fresh to this day. With the perfect casting of Julie Christie in the title role, the amazing script that exceeded the mediocre novel it was based on...the glamorous bay area setting, it is a treat. I love the fact that Petulia and her circle moved against a changing scene. They were not part of the sterotypical hippie milieu that was emerging, but they were living through it. The only thing that does not hold up are the attitudes toward the husband's brutality. I think the world is a more enlighted place by now.
Love this DVD great price
