In a variation on a heroic cowboy saga, this special forces style military man is captured in Russia. He uses his exceptional skill base and physical fitness to engage in escape and hidden survival, when hunted by the Russians. Well written by this popular author, this book is recommended.

This is Louis L'Amour's last book before his death. It is also his first non-western, that I know of. It is an exciting page-turner about a full-blood Apache named Captain Mack USAF, a test pilot captured over the Bering Sea by the Russians. Mack, using all the native skills learned as a youth from is grandfather on the Indian Reservation, escapes his Siberian prison and makes his way on foot back to the Bering Straights with an Amulak tracker hot on his tail. I jumped at the chance to read this exciting thriller again and then give it to my teenage son. He hates reading. He read this cover-to-cover in a few days!Louis L'Amour's style is over-the-top in his story telling that you can feel the chill in the air or smell the fire rising from the camp. The price for a hardback book as rare as this could have been expensive if it could be found in a bookstore. This was inexpensive and shipped extremely fast.Read full review
The book was as advertised. Shipping was great and well packaged. It's a favorite book that I was replacing an old paperback held together with s rubberband.

A great adventure story, one of the few he wrote not of the western genre. It ends abruptly and I think he had more planned but he died. I believe it was published posthumously. A story of survival in the Siberian winter while being pursued by the Soviets. And at the end, a little bonus. The protagonist is talking to an old man on the Bering shore and Olaf Swenson is mentioned. If you look up Olaf, he wrote a book about trading in Siberia "Northwest of the World". It is also well worth reading.

I never was a big Louis LaMoure fan but this book really caught me and I enjoyed it very much. It was not a western....as they say...but the main character was an American Indian. Loved the story. The book, though used, was in excellent condition.
