G-rated 1965 sex comedy
Only in 1965 could they make a G-rated sex comedy. By today's standards, morality as depicted in this film seems crazy, but I assure you young people that it is pretty accurate for the era. Single men in big cities like New York and Paris were expected to wine & dine a woman; after the expensive date, the guy would try to get her into bed. If she accepted the offer, he might continue to date her but would never, ever marry her. If she said no --- or even hit him over the head with a sharp object, like Ann-Margret does to Chad Everett in this film --- he might dump her, if he was simply sleazy; but if he was a decent guy at heart, he would realize she was a decent girl and propose marriage. Yes, this is a double standard; modern viewers need to accept that, in 1965, Ann-Margret's character ... Only in 1965 could they make a G-rated sex comedy. The movie is fun if you understand the context. Ann-Margaret is absolutely gorgeous, as are the designer fashions. The happy ending is right out of a Disney movie, complete with shaggy dogs.
