I had an old iPad that I wasn't using and wanted to start recording my live band rehearsals. This device works great for just that purpose. It gets the job done, and I only spent $10 on it while re-purposing my old iPad/iPhone for a decent recording device that doesn't clip during sessions.

OK, First, let's get this out of the way -- a Neumann it ain't. If you're a picky soul, looking for a high-end studio mic, this is NOT for you. But if you're looking for a good pedestrian upgrade from the crappy condenser that is in the iPad/iPod, this is, for the money, a real sweet purchase. In fullest disclosure, I got mine for less than $15.00, new in the box. I didn't want to spend a lot, because frankly, I didn't know if it would work with my iPad. I have an air2, and this has the large, old- style connector. But I plugged it into my adapter, then into the lightning port, et voila! It worked like a charm, and the thing performs like a trouper. it has a surprsing number of features for such an inexpensive gizmo, including a volume control, a limiter switch, and adjustable electret angles. Again, it is not the best microphone available to modern recording. But, accepting that it is what it is - one hell of a useful alternative to the iPad's native microphone.Read full review
