In spite of its release date of 2004, this movie is actually a re-release of earlier creative Japanese film-making. My son loves Japanese horror and this movie is a fine example. Watching this movie with my son made us laugh when we realized how puppy-like the knife creature, Guiron, is. But the point of these movies is big monsters fighting big monsters, and Gamera movies are a child's favorite. Gamera is a giant turtle with super powers and a friend of all children. Move over Ninja Turtles! These movies are imaginative and made to be watched by people of all ages. My son and I sit together with a bowl of popcorn and share laughter and excitement. We talk about the creatures and he is amazed that I know so much about them. For me, this movie brings back memories of MY mom with a bowl of popcorn and sharing some great quality time. You can't ask for more than that. For kids like my son who REALLY enjoys Japanese horror movies and giant creatures, there are numerous sites on eBay that sell toys, books trading cards and other collectibles to keep the fun going! I recommend this movie to anyone with a child and a little imagination.Read full review
Oh, boy, here we go. Gamera vs. Guiron is pretty darn bizarre. You have Gamera, a giant turtle that rockets around on jet flame, and then you have Guiron, a giant ... thing with a sword for a head and ninja throwing stars that come out of his nose. Toss in some hot alien women who want to eat children's brains, and you got yourself a winner! This movie is friggin' hilarious. Although the special effects are bad (worse than Godzilla movies) they're very ambitious--you'll see crazy stuff in Gamera movies that they'd never try in Godzilla movies. I'm talking about crazy insane stuff, like rocket powered stratosphere body slams! The special effects don't always look good, but it's pretty awesome all the same. The script seems to have been co-written by a kindergardener, but if you're sitting down to watch Gamera, you're not looking for high class entertainment. I liked this movie--maybe not as much as a godzilla film, but I found myself calling friends and telling them about how wacky it was. I reccommend it.Read full review
Gamera is the ultimate super hero! He is a friend to children and stands up to the most destructive villains on the planet and all others. As a kid, I always looked foreword to the latest Gamera movie because he is the coolest monster ever. Godzilla is great, but........not much personality, Gamera on the other hand has a purpose and a sense of duty to children and the human race. The special affects leave a little to be desired, but the fun over rides the cheesy factor. Watching this movie again after so many years has rekindled many happy memories of my childhood when I used to run home from school to watch monster movies. If you are a fan of the old monster movies you will LOVE Gamer vs.Guiron !!
looking for all the old monster movies to show the kids what kind of movies I grew up with they loved it
