THis is the Sixth of the Sookie Stackhouse NOvels, that Charlaine has written about the Vampire Detective Series. In bestseller Harris's perky sixth Southern Vampire novel to star Sookie Stackhouse (after 2005's Dead as a Doornail), the telepathic waitress of Bon Temps, La., is off to (pre-hurricane) New Orleans to close out her dead cousin Hadley's apartment. Hadley's death six weeks earlier had been unexpected, since, as a vampire, she was already dead. Still, she'd led a lively existence as the main squeeze of the Queen of Louisiana, an omnisexual vampire, whose political marriage to the King of Arkansas occurred the night before Hadley's demise. Sookie and Amelia Broadway, Hadley's landlady and a pretty cool witch, immediately discover a mess of trouble left behind in Hadley's closet, and Sookie's soon neck-deep in even more. Though most of the intrigue doesn't come till halfway through, Harris keeps the action going nonstop in this bubbly brew of supernatural spice and whimsical whodunit that's more fun than a barrel of beignets. Alan Ball, the creator of HBO's Six Feet Under, plans to shoot a TV pilot based on the series later this year, True Blood. I didn't like nothing about this book it is a great Series and a great book to read during the month of OCtober and since the True Blood Series is out on HBO it is very Popular so the books are hard to find in the stores and other places.Read full review
This book goes in to detail of Sookie's cousin, Hadley's, death. Sookie finding out about Hadley's death isn't actually in any of The Southern Vampire series books, but happens in "One Word Answer", which is one of the many short stories Ms. Harris writes about the Sookie Universe. So when you start reading and Sookie begins talking about Hadley's death you think you've missed something. That part was kind of confusing. The rest of the story, however, is great. You learn a lot about the Queen of Louisiana, and her marriage to the King of Arkansas. There is a heartbreaking scene for members of Team Bill (being a member of that team myself it was hard to get through and it made mad at Eric). Since the book mostly takes place in New Orleans you don't see a lot of Bon Temps gang (i.e. Sam, Jason, Tara...ect.), but I didn't even realize that until it got to the very end. This is the first book where Quinn is more of a main character rather than a supporting one. He still wasn't in there as much as I thought he would be. All in all this was an excellent book, and a must read for anyone interested in the Sookie series in order to keep up.Read full review
Charlaine Harris has another wonderfully written book added to her Sookie Stackhouse series. Her introduction of new characters with the potential for new story line possibilities keeps this book interesting and quirkily charming. With the addition of these new characters, the winding-down of other characters without completely closing them out leaves a varied of possibilites open and curiously anticipated. In addition, the introduction of the different species Sookie interacts reminds me of the differences in people that are encountered everyday in real life and how important it is to accept people for what they are inside. As the sixth book in the series, there are still enough surprises to keep a reader interested and gladly, not disappointed in the direction the characters and story have taken. Among them I think is the expansion of the Sookie-Bill-Eric situation and what role Quinn will have now that his character has been firmly seated and ties have been made with Sookie. Additionally, the introduction of hierarchy of vampire politics surely will have impact in the subsequent books as well as this one. Also, the given fact that the other species will be further revealed as more than "stories around the campfire" and the impact it will have is something I'm looking forward to.Read full review
I have read every book of the Sookie Stackhouse series about vampires from Charlaine Harris. This book #7 Definitely Dead was really terrific. Again, Sookie life is full of adventures and this book was really fast paced and full of thrills. I didn't want to put it down. Throughtout this story, you learn more about the vampires in Sookie's life and more about Quinn the tiger. There is also more adventures with witches, fairies and weres. So open you mind to the supernatural story and enjoy a fun thrilling mystery. I can't wait to read the last book in this series.
