I have been using the Tom Tom VIA 1535 TM after my Tom Tom XXL 540TM had been stolen from my car and I can't find a replacement for it with a decent price because it was discontinued. The VIA Series has better graphic then the XXL, but locating signals after you turned the unit on takes longer then the XXL. I still can't get the included software to work well to do any serious updates on the map. Tom Tom really needs to work on the VIA's software. The XXL works great with the updates and you can customized the unit with it's software. The design of VIA is much more beautiful then XXL. It is slim with a much more improved mount/suction cup integrated into the unit. It is a please to use on my Hummer H3 I lived in NYC area and some of the map were not updated (two way streets that had been changed to one way streets for over a year already) this should not be happening since NYC is a big city not just some small city in US. The voice recognition does not work well for reconizing the correct street. if you do not consider it as an option then this is fine. I normally prefer to type in my destination so it is not a problem for me. It does recongize commands but just not so good on street address. The bluetooth recongized my phone right away (samsung vibrant) but I have not tested it yet. The best feature of this product is the real time traffic updates, which saves me a lot of times planning on my trip. This function will also ask me if driver wants to use an alternative route which might be faster. Sometimes the updates might not be the most current but at least it does give me an estimate arrival time and it does inform me about the possible delays. This unit also warns me about where the traffic camera is. It's a very useful tool : ) I wish Tom Tom can work on the glitch on the software side. Other then slow to get GPS singals, I don't have much complains on this unit.Read full review
Didn't know how much a GPS could do until a recent trip I took with my son, who has a Garmin 1350LMT. Had to have one after that. Considered the Garmin Nuvi 1590LMT, but decided on the TomTom 1535TM for the "Voice Recognition and Bluetooth (phone link)" for the price range I wanted to pay. Read some negative reviews about TomTom's website, and found out myself their website is NOT compatable with 64-bit operating systems. Have to use 32-bit computer to be able to download map updates. Whatever brand, be sure to get one with Lifetime Map & Traffic updates included, as updates can be very expensive later, at 3 to 4 times a year. Very pleased with this GPS.
I havn't used it yet, because all the features were not available from TomTom for ths unit yet. I keep getting E-Mails from TomYom saying new downloads are available but when I go to download they say not available. They need to have the unit with all the features on it before putting it for sale. I think the unit is fine but before buying I would make sure all software is available. In the meantime I am still using my old XLS340 which works fine.
easy to use right out of the box, bluetooth took a couple of tries to connect but worked great. Love the roadsign display, traffic delay updates and lane displays. Easy to configure what is displayed and larger display is easier to read. Many of the technical glitches noted in earlier reviews must have been corrected ,I had no problems. Very happy with this unit.
Nice unit. working great after I registered with activation code provided to me and it was ready to download the map without any issue. So far I have used it 3-4 different directions locally within 30 miles, and it seems to work without any issue. Love it.
