The NI AK1 is well built and sounds great! I own two of them and have had no issues so far. I strictly use it as an exterior sound card for my kj/dj business. I prefer the 1/4" TRS outputs that the unit has, rather than rca outs that many competing products utilize. The ASIO drivers make it easy to operate the unit with many different programs. The AK1 comes bundled with a quality set of software, although I personally don't use any of it. Pros: Lots of features, sounds great, well built, good software bundle & quality terminations. Cons: A little pricey, may be overkill for some users & I wish the unit came with a longer USB cable.
After open the box and try the device I found that the shift key of the device didn’t work. After several tests I decide to contact the support team of Native Instrument who confirm to me that Shift key was working. Unfortunately the Shift key is necessary to use 50% of the functions of the device; therefore that key is VERY important. Poor quality control. As indicated buy the NI support team I sent the device to Germany for a replacement. They told me that I would get the money of the shipping cost back once they get the device, but ONLY if I ship it using regular shipping (that one that does not include tracing). I'm still waiting that Native Instrument get my device to get one that work back. Hope that this happen ASAP, more over what I really hope is to receive one day a working device.Read full review
Yes, I like it as it allows me play Acoustic and Electro guitars and they sounds perfect. However when I've tried use Cubase VST instruments and play guitar at the same time (i.e. used AudioKontrol only as main audio card) - some delays (1-2 sec pauses) appeared every 2-3 min. You can avoid this pauses, but just by increasing USB buffer size, but that will decrease your latency. So, its ok to be separate audiointerface for guitars and mic, then just connect it to main sound card and all will works just perfect!
I love the sound of this thing, but if you're looking to record vocals on it through the XLR input, for get about it. The signal is a mess. At first I thought it was my preamp, but not the case. Even with no signal running though the imput, you can hear the nastiness when you turn up your head phones. I love that it is compact and that you can take it with you wherever you go. The outputs are amazing for live shows or DJ's. But if you're looking to work in some vocals, this interface will not give you a clean sound. Back to the drawing board. Great output sound. Nasty XLR input signal.
This audio interface is an excellent piece of recording equipment. The pre amps are very clean and give anything I plug in an nice sound. It is very easy to use and had no problems setting it up with my recording software. Recommendations from other musician and the input options are what lead me to pickup this excellent piece of equipment. I wouldnt trade this up for anything at the price range.
