As a working bassist, with many artists in the list of influences, Paul McCartney being one of the top, this bass caught my eye. Over the years I have had a couple of "copy" Hofners - although fun to play, they just never felt or sounded like "the real thing". So, when I saw this bass, at this price, I was excited but somewhat reluctant. After a little research, I decided to go with it. It has proven to be one of my best purchases in years. Even right out of the box, the action was great! I lowered the strings just a little for my touch, and there it was - perfect. And what can you say about TRUE Hofner tone and punch? In this bass - it's ALL THERE. Thick, woody, great sustain, near perfect harmonics, good tuners. I could probably go on but will not. We do many Beatles covers and this bass just makes the rhythm section perfect. Use a pick in true McCartney style and you're automatically much closer to your dream of sounding like HIM! TOTALLY RECOMMEND this bass for those on a budget!Read full review

The hex nut on the truss rod has been stripped by an inexperienced tech. The neck is under tentioned and needs to be tightened to get straight. No way to tighten or remove the nut. This damage was done by the same guy that removed the truss cover sanded off the stock script that is printed on all Ignition B basses. This gutiar is NOT in mint condition as as advertised. Thanks bro. I'm not happy at all.

This is a good iteration of the Hofner Bass. The full hollow nature of it makes it light and very easy to play unplugged. With round wound strings and it's unmodified electronics it's a good choice for a lot of things, very touch sensitive, harmonics easily exploited, cuts very well though mixes because it has a different eq curve than your average bass. It's weak suit is that with round wound strings the one thing it does not do well is traditional bass, If you want to easily sound like Chirs Squire or Geddy Lee or even John Entwhistle this is a great choice, but if you want to go the traditional route, I would suggest flat wound strings, you will sound traditional and get an even response across the fingerboard. With round wounds you get a delineation of response, the two lowest strings are bright, snarly and much punchier that the two highest to the point where with rounds, you have to adjust your playing style to account for it, the dynamics shift. I like it a lot, almost enough to get another and put flats on it so i have a full suite of capability across two basses.. I will mod the wiring to extend the eq, stock wiring is basically volume for each pickup and a little boost on each, that idea was out of out of date before these basses were invented.Read full review

This bass was ready to be played right out of the box. I just tuned it up and it was ready to go. The guitars' thin neck and lightweight body makes this guitar incredibly comfortable to play. The controls are a little odd, but are easily learned, and I will more than likely change the strings. It has a really nice tone both amplified or acoustic. It is a great bass for the price. This probably won't be the best bass you own, but it may be the most fun.

I played a borrowed Hofner violin bass at a session over twenty years ago, and I loved its warm tone and playability. Although I loved channeling my inner Macca, I never really thought about getting one until I saw one in a shop for a nice price. I picked it up and it played beautifully; although the pickups' output was pretty low. I shopped around and found this on eBay - with the stylish hard shell case - so I took the plunge. Mine came perfectly set up and almost right in tune! The sunburst finish is beautiful, and nicely complements the pearloid pick guard. Overall, it's a very well-crafted instrument, with versatile sounds. I don't think you'd want to slap and pop it, but it has its niche - not just Beatles covers. it's lightness and smaller size are also plusses, and a fine alternative to my regular, solid-body bass. I don't know if the Hofner i played all those years ago was a vintage German-made model, or what - but I'm also very impressed with this inexpensive Chinese-made version. Great value!Read full review
