I love this book as much as it is possible to love any pharmacology textbook! The textbook my college chose was as understandable as a Russian dictionary. That text never helped me get a single pharmacology question correct. The professors used powerpoint slides to tell us the drug names and side effects, etc. I mentioned to a nursing professor that I did not get anything out of the official text. She recommended getting an edition of Lehne off ebay. The Lehne textbook and study guide are fantastic. I finally understand the receptors and how they work. I can explain it to patients. Appendix C pronunciation of Generic Drug Names is especially helpful because it is the 300 most commonly prescribed medications. The textbook and the study guide have identical covers. The only difference is the word "study guide" in the upper right hand corner of the study guide. I was disappointed when I thought I ordered the text and got the study guide. It was a blessing in disguise. The study guide is valuable because it is filled with NCLEX style questions. Currently 21 per cent of the NCLEX is pharmacology questions. You need to go to a website to get the answers to the questions, and some medication flashcards. It is worth it. The first page of the flashcards has all the receptor types. The next chart is all 21 of the family names like: -zosin, -sone, -terol. These two book definitely helped me pass the NCLEX.I wish that I had this book my first semester of nursing school, and not the last!Read full review
The book is very informative even though for my class, we didn't need to use it. The author rocks. Read the introduction on himself. He's funny and you can see his humor throughout the text. Not the traditional textbook for school.
One thing that I liked about this book is that it explains everything. Also it breaks drugs and such down in a way that is easy to understand. Even if you are not in the medical profession and wanted to know more about Pharmacology I would say that this book would be one to use.
This book is fabulous. It is easy to read and the author does a great job describing things and explaining why they are relevant in the nursing world. I highly recommend this for any new or practicing nurse.
This book is so different from other textbooks I have purchased. Richard Lehne writes in first person like he is actually our teacher standing in the front explaining the information. Makes it very entertaining, or at least as entertaining as a pharmacology book can get. Very thorough information, yet easy to read. Highly recommended.
