I found this book in my house (no idea how it got there) and, being a Preterist, knew I would disagree with his interpretations. Imagine my surprise, however, when I found myself being insulted! To wit: [the dating of Revelation before AD70] "is based largely on attempts to relegate [Revelation's] prophetic fulfillment entirely to the period before the destruction of Jerusalem...". What does Macarthur think he needs to insult by telling me I am purposely ignoring the (supposed) obvious, particularly when exactly 3 pages later he quotes, "...for the time is near." (Rev 22:10) regarding the "last days", and then wants us to believe "near" means 750,000 days! Preterists do not "attempt to relegate", which to me implies a half-hearted and dismissive handling of Scripture. By contrast it is an objective and sound hermeneutic that leads us to determine that Revelation was written in the late 60's. In addition, he thinks Irenaeus is unimpeachable, but doesn't tell you Irenaeus also said Jesus lived until 50 years old, didn't believe in the Trinity, and quoted extra-Biblical writings as equal with the Scriptures. Add to this the fact that Macarthur doesn't deal with the fundamentally different view that Preterists take, nor does he address the fact that Preterism offers clarity where Futurism clouds and confuses most of the passages related to (John's) future (our past), and this book is strictly for those who have already decided they believe as Macarthur does.Read full review

This book is very helpful in understanding the book of Revelation. John MacArthur's does an excellent job explaining the books of the Bible and this is no exception. I have purchased several of these to give to others who had questions on this book of the Bible.
