Well written. I enjoyed this book more than I've enjoyed a book all year. This work provides a compelling journey through history to explore the roots of modern sport fencing. If you have an interest in the history of swords, personal combat, martial arts, Olympic sport, or just general history, Cohen's work provides a readable account that will appeal to most. If you have ever, or would like to practice the modern sport of fencing, this book should hold special appeal. Cohen demonstrates his knowledge of the topic from the perspective of both a historian and as someone whom has faced off against opponents on the strip at the highest competitive levels. Again, this is a highly enjoyable read.

I got this book to read with my 9 yr old son who is interested in fencing. It is a grown up book and I have had to sensor a some language but it’s an interesting run down of the history. We are enjoying reading it together. It’s a very large long book for a young boy but we are taking it slow and pulling out other activities such as watching The Three Musketeers, Zoro, and other sword fighting movies as well as dueling together. Over all a very fun experience with my boy. I do recommend!
