Current slide {CURRENT_SLIDE} of {TOTAL_SLIDES}- Best Selling in Snare Drums
I really had no previous experience with Mapex before, and didn't even realize that the snare I was trying out on a kit at a drum shop, was this Wraith snare. It is as advertised- It's Explosive. And quite warm. It has a good amount of bottom-end which really supports the attack that we all like. I was impressed with it's overall sensitivity to head changes. Personally I preferred the Coated CS head the most, second the Coated Ambassador X (12ml thick). The regular Coated Ambassador loved to be cranked up high for jazz and it was surprisingly articulate and inspiring to play. My least favorite head was the one it came with, the Evans heavy hitter, though it really does add it's own dominating character to the drum. I specifically purchased this to fulfill the role in a blues band that needs a meaty sound on some tunes and penetrating rimshots on others. The Wraith does it all. My only negative is I think they overpriced it. They should've sold for a hundred less. I think alot of people might not want to take the chance for the current seeing price. I was very close to just getting a Black Beauty for a bit more. But-- this Wraith has a thicker more versatile sound for my liking. And I had borrowed a Black Beauty from a friend and played it every day in my studio for 8 months- just before this purchase.Read full review
