Simplistic, reliable, and rugged are what make the Barnett Commando a great crossbow. In today's world of cheap import throw away plastics. This bow fell way short of that mark!. With its simplistic operations and rugged frame. The bow can be set-up to meet your outdoor activities. It's a shame the Barnett group discontinued these early models and never made improvements to this reliable platform. Thanks

I purchased my Barnett Commando I crossbow to replace one that I had back in the 80's. To me, this is a classic design that, when maintained and used according to the instructions, is a very accurate and powerful crossbow. Granted, it doesn't have the power of a compound or the modern features found on today's models, but it has a unique break-stock cocking feature that makes it a joy to use. Be aware that there are many of these on Ebay that have been modified with replacement prods made for other makes and models. The most often seen of these is a 150lb. prod that was made for a different model that had a longer power stroke length. With the Commando's 7 5/8" power stroke length, these prods will only attain a fraction of the 150lb. draw weight. The most popular draw weight found is 175lb. There are some rare 220lb. variants also. I had to replace the string protectors on the prod tips and the cocking hooks and I also replaced the string. If you're able to get a reasonable deal on one of these classics without a damaged or modified prod and treat it with some TLC, you'll have a classic design that delivers some satisfying fun.Read full review
To me,there is no crossbow that has comes close to the old commandos. These are made simple and strong. One screw is all it takes to disassemble the trigger mechanism and upper/lower receivers. VERY accurate out to about 40-50 yards. Once you get used to cocking it,you can have it ready to fire in about 6 seconds( I can send 10 bolts downrange per minute). As long as you use HIGH QUALITY STRINGS this bow will perform flawlessly. One note: check your prods to make sure there is no delamination. If stored in a damp place for decades this can happen to the earlier prods. The Veloci-glass prods, which you find on late 80s-90s models, have a rubber coating which prevents this problem. Originally designed for the British military, these old bows are made to last a lifetime.

It is perfect, all the features favor the person (man or woman) and it will last a lifetime or two and maybe longer. There is no modern day product that even comes close to replicating all the features of the Barnett Commando Crossbow and the accuracy with power. When a person learns how to waterproof the prod attachment point, then this bow can be taken out in any weather with the new type strings now available. It is almost unbelievable how well the Barnett Family made this Commando Crossbow. If a person looks in Wikipedia there is quite a report of the Barnett Commando Crossbow.... Good Luck To All.
I have wanted one of these crossbows since I first saw it in the Barnett catalog. It is a fantastic shooter. Being to cock the bow with the folding stock is a great help. Adding a Rancho Safari Cat Quvier I Crossbow makes them a super hunting combination. This also is the type of crossbow used in the James Bond movie and I have the poster with the crossbow featured. Just recently added the matching crossbow pistol to my collection. Most of the items I purchase on ebay would not be found any other way. Thanks for your great idea.
